Privacy Policy for the Feather browser extension

1. What the extension does

It adds one small Feather mark to the action row under posts on x.com and twitter.com. Clicking the mark opens a short menu of shortcuts to things Feather can do with that post: Create Content, Download Video, Export Thread. It does nothing on any other website, and nothing at all until you click.

2. What it can see

On x.com and twitter.com only, the extension reads the page you are already looking at, so it can find each post and put the mark in the right row. It also reads the responses X’s own website receives while you browse, and takes exactly two things from them:

• the address of the video file in a post, and
• which post a post is quoting, so a quoted video can be saved too.

This is necessary because X plays video from a temporary address that cannot be saved, while the real file is named in data the page has already downloaded for itself. The extension makes no extra request to get this, changes nothing on the page, and passes the data back to X untouched.

Everything in this step happens inside your browser tab and is kept only in memory for as long as that tab is open. Nothing is written to disk, and nothing is sent to us or to anyone else.

3. What it never touches

• Your X account, password, cookies or session. It cannot sign in, post, or read your inbox.
• Your private messages, drafts, likes or bookmarks.
• Any page outside x.com and twitter.com. It is not loaded there.
• Your browsing history, open tabs or bookmarks.
• Your name, email address, location or device identifiers.

The extension contains no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels and no crash reporting. It also loads no code from the internet: everything it runs ships inside the package you install and is reviewed by the store.

4. What leaves your browser, and only when you click

• Create Content and Export Thread open a new tab on feathershots.com with the public link of the post you clicked. That link, and nothing else, reaches our website, exactly as it would if you had pasted it there yourself, and it is then handled under our site Privacy Policy.
• Download Video hands the video’s address to your browser’s own download manager. Your browser fetches the file straight from X’s media servers (video.twimg.com) and saves it to your computer. The file does not pass through us, and our servers are not told that you saved it. The saved file is named after the post id so you can find it later.
• Sometimes a video cannot be saved directly, because X serves a live stream rather than a file. The button then falls back to opening Feather’s own downloader in a new tab, with the post link, as above.

5. What it stores

Nothing. The extension asks for no storage permission, sets no cookie, and keeps no history of the posts you clicked. Uninstalling it leaves nothing behind, and there is nothing for you to clear or for us to delete.

6. Permissions, and why each one is needed

• Access to x.com and twitter.com, to place the mark in the action row and to read the video address of the post you ask to save. These are the only sites the extension runs on.
• downloads, to hand a video file to your browser’s download manager. This is what makes Download Video save the file instead of sending you to another page.
• Access to video.twimg.com, X’s media host, so the download can reach the file itself. Nothing else is requested from it.

7. Data disclosure for the Chrome Web Store

We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties, other than in the one case described in section 4 where you click a button and the public post link is opened on our own website. We do not use or transfer user data for any purpose unrelated to the extension’s single purpose, and we do not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes. The extension’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The same applies to the Firefox add-on published on addons.mozilla.org.

8. Children

The extension is not intended for children under 16, and it collects no data from anyone, of any age.

9. Changes to this Policy

If a future version of the extension asks for a new permission or handles data differently, this page is updated before that version is published, and the date above changes with it.
